Four in a row in China!
David Higgins and Ieuan Thomas have described their run on the Kaiyang Rally last weekend as “the perfect run.”
The TQ-backed team dominated the event from start to finish, winning by 1m13s over Australian Dean Herridge.
The win is the fourth in a row for David and Ieuan in the Chinese championship. Nobody else has beaten them this year. They have taken victory on the Shanghai Rally, the Huairou Rally, the Liupanshui Rally and the Kaiyang Rally.
“We were fastest on the opening spectator stage on Saturday night and never looked back,” says David. “It was the perfect rally. We won both legs and the event. It’s fantastic to have won four out of the four rallies so far.”
Although the team’s efforts help keep the WY Rally Team at the top of the teams championship points table in China, because David is British he does not qualify for points in the drivers championship.
After a busy few months commuting between Britain and China regularly, the crew will now not return to China until November. They will now switch focus back to their British Rally Championship campaign which kicks off again on the Ulster International Rally in Northern Ireland on 31st August/1st September.
“Before the Ulster Rally we hope to spend a few days testing the TQ RED Toyota S2000R,” says David. “Hopefully we will test in Ireland to give us a good set up for the Ulster. We need to build on the success we had on the Jim Clark when we finished second and get back onto the podium.”
